FTS Restructures

With the aquisition of Alminco's composite manufacturing business,

Fibretank Systems Pty Ltd is restructuring into two specialised

manufacturing divisions. The steel manufacturing division will trade

under Fibretank Systems Pty Ltd trading as FTS Tanks and fibreglass

manufacturing under FTS Composites Pty Ltd.

The new structure will facilitate future growth through the development

of new products and the building of specialised skills. Both divisions

will continue to manufacture at the current location in Carrington, Newcastle.

FTS is thankful for the support of our customers over the past ten years

and looks forward to providing quality innovative storage solutions for

the future.

Ethanol In FRP Tanks Manufactured Pre March 2003

Questions have been asked regarding the suitability of FRP tanks built to originally to take unleaded fuel to handle ethanol blends.

The information that we have from our resin suppliers is that these tanks are capable to handle 10% ethanol blends subject to 1]the blend not containing more than 10% ethanol and 2] that there is no phase separation in the tank due to a high water content.

There is a possibility that ethanol blends over 10% and phase seperation will soften the resin in these FRP tanks which could lead to failure.

Latest FRP Technology

FTS is using the latest technology in Fibre Reinforced Plastic construction for their fuel, chemical and water underground storage tanks. Our standard resin for all fuel storage tanks is Terephthalic Polyester Resin which has the ability to cope with the demands of blended fuels that contain Ethanol. It is a high crosslinked density Terephthalic polymer that has superior strength and corrosive resistance as well as greater retention of physical properties at elevated temperatures. This means that all FTS fuel tanks are built to the highest standard ensuring that they are maintenance free and extremely long lasting.

Where extra corrosion resistance is required, particularly for the storage of certain chemicals, we use a Vinyl Ester Resin as a lining that will cope with the particular chemical’s corrosive properties.
